Mitsubishi India has planned to finally launch the Pajero sport this 12th of march. After a long delay due to the natural calamities Japan earthquake, Thailand floods (the production unit in thailand got affected) so ended up having to delay the launch. Finally Pajero Sport will come to India in a 7 seater avatar with 3 rows of seats. It will also come loaded with active safety features life ABS and EBD and passive safety net including dual front airbags.
Initially it will be as CBU import, further depending on the response, the Mitsubishi will start assembling the machine from CKD kits in India, with partnering Hindustan Motors. Expected to be priced around 24 lakhs, but there are more powerful SUV in the range with tough competition from Toyota Fortuner, the Hyundai Santa Fe, Chevrolet Captiva etc.
It comes with a 2.5 liter diesel engine base variant and 3.2 litre diesel engine for a top variant and 5 speed manual transmission and no word about the automatic transmission coming to India. It sports a 140PS power at 1400 RPM and 400 NM torque at 2000 RPM. Other notable features includes climate control, slide and rear window demister, cruise control, automatic rain sensing wipers, auto headlamps etc.
When talking about the built of the body, its strong and solid reliable for off-roading. Not so much promising interiors. Could have improved in the performance segment.
Expected to be more spacious than Fortuner but Pajero has priced higher than fortuner. If Mitsubishi prices the Pajero closer to the Fortuner (below Rs. 22 lakh) it has more chances of surviving the competition.
