Mercedes-Benz has quietly added up a new low cost variant of the E-class, E220 CDI to its line up. This car which was already been caught testing , has been released officially now. This Benz is priced at 44.50 lakhs (on-road mumbai). This variant is powered by the same 2143 cc , turbo-charged diesel motor giving out 170 bhp of power at 3000 rpm and 400 Nm of torque, which is mated with a 5-speed automatic gearbox.
The E220 CDI is available in only one variant, Elegance. The E220 CDI and E250 CDI uses the same engine but the E250 is tuned for more power, producing 203 bhp at 4200 rpm and 500 Nm of torque.Mercedes is using BlueEFFICIENCY technology on the entry level diesel E-Class to boost fuel economy.
This debut of E220 CDI is the answer for its rival Audi A6 and BMW 5-Series. Both the Audi A6 and BMW 5-Series are available with an entry level diesel motor which helps these German masters to price their luxury saloons very aggressively making it a tough decision to choose.
Audi uses a 2.0-liter TDI unit, while BMW uses the 3-Series and X1 employs a 2 litre motor to power the entry level executive cars. Adding to the competition of entry level Executive cars, we hope this one will surely going to toughen up the fight even more.
